Art of the Young Czechoslovak Republic

From April 19th till April 22nd, Prague´s New Town City Hall (Novoměstská radnice) will host 41st Antique Fair. At the occasion of the centenary of forming the Czechoslovak Republic, the Czech Antique Dealers Association decided to focus on artists who took part in shaping the identity of the new state, as well as the artistic styles prevailing in the first years of Czechoslovakia´s existence.

“The ideals of those who founded our independent state in 1918 were reflected also by the work of artists many of whom took active part in building the identity of the new republic,” says Jan Neumann, President of Czech Antique Dealers Association. “Some, like Alfons Mucha, the author of the design of the first Czechoslovak banknotes, were directly participating on creation of the symbols of the new statehood; others successfully represented the republic by their work abroad.”

Antique dealers taking part in the fair will thus concentrate on pieces of acknowledged artists of the era and the topic of this Fair will also be presented within the accompanying program of the fair.

Admission: 100,- CZK / for students and pensioners 80,- CZK
