Program

The bilateral exhibition project “Time Shift” will take place in Prague in 2022. Two cosmopolitan artists' associations operate here - one in Prague, the other in Berlin – each of them of the two capitals of two closely related neighbors. Both associations have the opportunity to work independently and freely through self-governing structures. As recent history shows, the free articulation of their artists is not a matter of course and cannot be valued highly enough, especially now. It is an exhibition that brings artists from Berlin and Prague together in one place and shows their works in an artistic dialogue. This form of cooperation already guarantees mutual cooperation during the construction and preparation of the project. This is how we recognize similarities, main topics and changes even in times of current crises, such as the pandemic or the war. The aim of this joint project is to cultivate and maintain the free formation of opinions in art and society in dialogue.

New Association of Prague Artists - NSPU

The new association of Prague artists, founded in 1992 by the painter Jan Načeradský, is paradoxically one of the oldest fully functioning modern art associations. especially thanks to the Navrátil family, who set up a gallery especially for this Association - the Antonín Navrátil Exhibition Hall.  Its profile and character are determined primarily by the fact that during its existence and activity, its name has established itself as a kind of "trademark" guaranteeing both professionalism and, most importantly, a space for free expression in which one artist can stand opinion leads the other. During its existence, almost two hundred artists have passed through the Association and today it has over twenty members, including artists of other nationalities. Within the Association, you can meet expression, lyrical abstraction, new figuration, conceptual art, the art of installation, the cool objectivity of the view, but also the use of emotions and mystical immersion in the secrets of nature. In short, there are few art paths that any member of the Association would not take. The creators  are such strong and distinguish personalities, none are dominant. The Association is not a random group of individuals. All the creators are, despite their diversity, embarking on their kind of polyphony, where the individual components are equal, none are leading or accompanying, yet we feel that they are totally harmonious .

The VBK/ The Berlin Artist Association

The Berlin Artist Association is the oldest  association of artist in Germany, and Europe. Bringing together professional visual artists, painters, sculptors, graphic designers, artists creating art installations, photography and new media work. The VBK also cooperates with other national and international art organizations that can use the premises of the VBK as an interesting forum and platform.

Since it was founded in 1841, around 1300 artists have shaped the Berlin Artists' Association and developed it again and again. Artists have reflected and discussed their production conditions, artistic positions and possibilities of self-marketing and repeatedly renegotiated them in the field of tension of the respective prevailing political and cultural-political conditions and under the laws of the art market and the current development of new media, production and means of communication.

According to today's common understanding, every artist is first and foremost his own company, a producer and manager in his own right. In addition, the artists in the VBK are involved in the development of artistic concepts and programs and contribute to the community's professional public image.

As a representative of self-organized professional artists, the VBK represents an authority that is always a forum, impetus and actor in Berlin's cultural life with focal points that have changed over the course of time.
